Transforming Tables, Opening Studios

The refurbishment of the studios at Université Laval’s School of Architecture starts with the existing furniture: 247 metal table frames are retained and repainted white, then fitted with new FSC-certified maple tops made in Saint-Hyacinthe. The drawers are removed and grouped in the corners of the rooms; the space freed beneath the tables and the new tops allow work from several sides. Frames are also joined to create large shared tables for group work and model making. Fabio Sedia sits on the refurbishment committee alongside Carmen Espegel, Alexanne Girard and Joances Beaudet. The drawings show how a reuse-based approach transforms the way the studio is used.
